Haghpat Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeHaghpat (Հաղպատ, meaning "a huge wall") is a well known monastery in
the Alaverdi area. It's about 10 km from Alaverdi and to get there
you'll need your own transport, negotiate with a local to give you a
lift or take a long walk. Take the main road northwards (towards
Georgian border) and soon after you leave the town, turn right a steep
climbing road which takes you to the Haghpat village.
The 10th century monastery is beautiful with fantastic views. One of the most beautiful Armenian khackars can be seen at the gavit of the library.
In 1996 Haghpat and neighbouring Sanahin were the first Armenian monuments inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Apart from parking fee (about 100AMD) there is no entrance fee, just buy some candles (40AMD/piece) as it's a custom elsewhere at Armenian churches.
