Sevanavank Monastery
Edit ThisSevanavank Monastery
Located over the most popular beaches of the lake, a visit to Sevanavank is pretty much obligatory on a trip to Lake Sevan, or even en route to Dilijan. Not particularly impressive from the outside, the setting, the views and the beautiful altar make this worth climbing up the stairs to the top. If you can catch a service it is a beautiful to observe and then there are the unusual green khachkars.

Hayravank Monastery
Edit ThisA much more refined monastery than Sevanavank, this one is much less visited, simply because it's a bit further south down the coast. The views and setting add to the allure, and heading down to visit Hayravank and Noratus Cemetery is a fun side trip.

This is now the largest khachkar cemetery in the world. The art of carving stone crosses - most often for tombstones is a very special artform for Armenians, and this is an old collection with hundreds of khachkars placed in rows or singly. Noratus village also has the tiny and cute Daputs Monastery (S. Grigor Luysavorich church) - but most locals will not be able to direct you to it.
