Day Trips in Saranda
Edit ThisSaranda Day Trips help to unravel the slightly demanding landscape of Saranda. First-time visitors often get confused trying to plan a day trip in Saranda since the recommended sights are spread across the mainland and many small, scattered islands. However, the following Saranda Day Trips provide the ease of completing a scheduled trip within a day without worrying much about the entailing distances or scheduling problems.
Option 1—Explore Butrint’s Historical Riches
The city of Butrint is just a few miles away from Saranda. Butrint has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The landscape of Butrint is comprised of many ancient remains, some of which are still being studied. The most popular destination within Butrint is the city of Vouthrota. Some of the buildings found here are believe to be more than 2500 years old. Visitors can relax in the numerous parks whenever they feel tired. During the afternoon, a small, local market is set-up. Visitors can buy cheap, handcrafted souvenirs in this market. Most of the pieces sold here are replicas of historic basilicas found across eastern Europe.
Option 2—Visit the Luxurious Riviera and Discover Rural Albania
From Butrint, visitors can proceed towards Llogara Pass. At an elevation of more than 1000 meters, this is among the highest of coastal roads in Albania. Here, visitors will find the exotic Albanian Riviera. Unlike many tourist locations in Albania that are still trying to recover from economic hardships, the Riviera exudes luxury in the backdrop of an untouched forest-cover. During the late afternoon, visitors can proceed towards the neighboring villages of Borsh and Lukove. These villages provide an enlightening insight into the rural landscape of Albania.
