When to Go in St. John
Edit ThisWith only an average five degree temperature change from the coldest to
the warmest months of the year, St. John is a wonderful getaway for
anytime of the year. Two-thirds of St. John is a United States National
Park and the island is located just forty miles east of Puerto Rico.
Less Expensive: May
St. John villas start to lower their prices around May 1st each year. With an island that is predominantly national park your entertainment is defined by the water and your imagination. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the closest thing to a Caribbean experience as you will find in the Virgin Islands.
There are many things to see and do no matter when you plan your Virgin Island vacation. For a glimpse into St. John’s past visit the Annaberg Plantation Ruins and walk the grounds of a partially restored eighteenth century sugar plantation. Hiking trails are abundant inside the national park and off of trail 15 you will find rocks with petroglyphs (drawings on the rocks). Their origins are unknown but the island’s rich past is immediately evident.
Cultural Celebrations and Festivals: June-July
One thing not to miss out on is the St. John Festival and Cultural Celebration in late June and early July. Featuring a carnival with plenty of music, dancing, pageants and sports it is an event full of spectacle you will surely enjoy.
Year-round Activities
The national park maintains an underwater trail in Trunk Bay. This is a great place for beginning snorkelers to learn the sport and enjoy the beauty of crystal blue waters. If you have never been snorkeling before this is one of the best places to learn. The water is gorgeous and the temperatures are wonderful no matter when you choose to go.
Seasonal Prices
The island villas prices for rent will vary greatly depending on the time of year you choose to visit. For instance a honeymooning couple can rent the only small beachfront villa on the island, Crow’s Nest, for $230 USD a night during the slower season between April 10th and December 17th but that same room during the busy season starting in January will run about $270. The larger the villa you rent the bigger the difference you will see. The Villa Panache will cost a group of four $860 USD a night during the slow season and $1,230 USD a night during the busy season.
When you go will be totally determined by your budget because this wonderful island’s climate stays the same and will make for a great vacation anytime from January to December.
