Edit This

St. John in the Virgin Islands is well known for its beaches but there are so many activities to do, you'll be exhausted just deciding what to experience first.

Biking

Rent a bike and tour the island on bike. You can even book a bike tour of the island that will cost you anywhere from $45 to $90 depending on the activities on the tour. Make sure you are in shape because St. John has mountains and valleys. Tours run for half or whole days.

Boating

You can also rent a boat and explore the islands around. There are several that are deserted and can be explored, but there are more that are private. Motor boats, kayaks, and sail boats are available. Your rental operator can give you maps and directions and tell you where you can or can't go. You can charter a boat with a crew. While you are out on a boat you can also snorkel in the tropical reefs to see all the beautiful tropical aquatic life. Boat charters will cost about $100 but some will be more or less depending on what you do.

Hiking

If you enjoy hiking you can enjoy yourself in the Virgin Islands National park on St. John. There are over 20 hiking trails; some that are easy and some that are for the more experienced hiker. The park has 7000 acres you can explore and you can see ruins of old sugar plantations, salt ponds, and much more.

Beaches

On the beaches there are tons of things to do besides swimming and getting a tan. Most of the beaches rent out jet skis and kayaks in fact some beaches actually have tours that use the apparatus. You can also learn how to sail.  If you always wanted to parasail, this is the place to do it. Scuba diving is also a possibility and you will be amazed by the corals and other sea life around the island. If you don't know how to dive there are places that will take you out to see if you like it, then teach and certify you. There are also some surfing opportunities on the beaches of St. John. Several beaches muster up some pretty big waves for surfing and body boarding.

Whale Watching

While near the water don't forget to watch for whales if you are there during December to March. The humpback whale includes the Virgin Islands in it's migratory route and you are sure to see them around this time.

Don't expect to just relax on the beach at St. John. You would be missing out if you don't participate in one of the many activities the island has to offer.
