Boat Charters

Charter companies are all over the island and have boats that will take you out during the day or at sunset to take advantage of the beautiful view on the water. One of the most popular snorkeling charters is one that goes to Buck Island National underwater Monument. A Half day starts at around $60, a full day at $80, and sunset trips are around $30 per person or $300 depending on the size of boat and number of passengers. Lunch is usually included in the full day charters. 

Fishing

There are many fishing charters that will give you the experience of deep sea fishing. Most charters go 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours. Marlin, Wahoo, and Mahi-mahi are plentiful in the waters and the charter will provide tackle and equipment, bait, water, ice, and soda. For an extra fee they will arrange to pick up a box lunch before going out on the water or you can arrange that yourself. Prices for a charter range from $450 to $800. 

Diving and Snorkeling

There are many companies that rent diving and snorkeling gear and some will even teach you how if you never have before. If you have a diving certificate make sure you bring proof. There are beautiful tropical fish in the waters around the island and some shipwrecks that are safe. Frederiksted Pier is a popular place that has beautiful corals and the rare batfish, frogfish and even seahorses. Diving tanks cost about $100 per tank but many operators have special deals. Some will even teach you how to dive but it is suggested that you do the written part of the certificate requirements at home and then do the on hands diving part there as it will take less time. 

Hiking

There is a rain forest on the island that can be hiked with a guide. Locals think its better to go through the area on horseback. Guides give great explanations of the history and folklore of the island and describe all the plants and animals that live in the rain forest. If you’ve never ridden a horse before, don’t worry. Guides will teach you and prices start at $50 per person.

St Croix offers many different water activities but there are other things to do as well. Don’t miss a trip to the rain forest and make sure to participate in the many water sports available on the island.
