On your trip to Puerto Rico, you will most certainly want to stop in the city known for more celebrations than any other on the island - San Juan. There are a great number of San Juan Festivals held each year and at many different times of the year. So no matter when you travel, you'll have a variety of events to choose from. Most of the festivals are held in Old San Juan and it would be wise for travelers to either hop the bus or park in one of the parking garages toward the edges of town. If you decide to drive into town to attend, you will run into horrible traffic and a sea of tourists swarming the streets. Listed are a few of the popular festivals to consider when visiting.

Cinemafest De Puerto Rico

This is an internationally renowned film festival which draws actors, directors and producers from all over the world. Any film submitted that is Caribbean related will be eligible for prizes. The film festival screens over 100 films, both feature length and short. It lasts approximately one week and is always held in the month of November.

Bacardi Feria De Artesanía

This is a yearly festival hosted by The Bacardi Corporation. During the first two weekends of December, over 100,000 people attend this event and view the local arts and crafts, dance to live Latin music and sample their favorite Bacardi rum. Drinking is not free at this festival, but bear in mind any amount of money you spend at the festival will go to a charitable organization of the company's choosing.

Puerto Rico Salsa Congress

This is a yearly salsa convention and exhibition held at the end of July, where dancers come from around the world to compete as well as teach visitors of every dancing skill level.

La Noche De San Juan Bautista

This festival at the end of June is held in honor of San Juan Bautista and is usually an island-wide beach party complete with bonfires, marshmallow roasting, music and fireworks. View local arts and crafts, enjoy the live Latin music and of course the traditional foods.

Heineken Jazz Festival

Known as Puerto Rico's largest jazz music festival, it has drawn past acts such as Eddie Palmieri and Manhattan Transfer. Latin jazz is the main type of music you will hear at the festival, but there are musicians who come from all over the world to play here. The festival is held in June and will last a total of four days.
