Things to do
Edit ThisSt. Maarten is an island in the Caribbean, near Puerto Rico. The island is Dutch within the Southern half and French in the Northern Half. This gives the little island much diversity when it comes to things to see and do.
Beaches
Some of the most popular activities on St. Maarten incorporate water. There over 30 beaches to choose from, those in the south are a bit more commercial. Some of the beaches are easy to get to, while some are owned by hotels which have limited access. On the other hand, some of the beaches are enclosed by cliffs which make them a little more difficult to access. These are the beaches that are worth getting to and exploring.
Charter Boats
Boats can be chartered in St. Maarten to take you deep sea fishing for marlin, tuna, dolphin-fish, barracuda and kingfish. The Marlin Cup takes place during May and a Billfish Tournament is held in June. There are several different companies in St. Maarten that will take you out on the ocean, supply bait and tackle, and teach you how to fish. Most companies provide refreshments while out at sea.
Diving and Snorkeling
Diving and snorkeling is popular under the waters of St. Maarten. The water is very clear and sea life is easy to see. There is a coral reef that is home to beautiful aquatic life. There is an English Battleship from 1801 that is sunk in the waters of Great Bay. You can rent snorkeling equipment but you must have a certificate with you in order to dive. Diving equipment can also be rented. During the months of July and August and during Easter and Christmas vacations, the Dolphin Club is up and running to teach children 5 to 12 how to snorkel.
Sailing
Sailing is also an option for things to do in St. Maarten. Sunfish and Sailfish boats can be rented at many hotels while larger boats can be chartered from many different operators around the island. At the end of March St. Maarten is home to several regattas.
Water Sports
Water sports are a regular activity on the island. You can windsurf, water ski, parasail and jet sky and all the equipment available for rent. Rentals are not too terribly expensive. Several hotels even rent equipment.
Fly Zone
Fly Zone is an adventure park that is suspended above a forest of 200 year old mango and mahogany trees. There are swinging ropes and suspended bridges with hiking trails. Tourists can dine at the Hidden Forest Café. This is truly a family oriented place and your family will love it.
St. Maarten offers all kinds of things to do to make your vacation a spectacular one.
