Things to do
Edit ThisSantiago isn’t quite the tourist destination as other parts of the Dominican Republic. It isn’t on the Caribbean side of the country, still it affords a few interesting outdoor activities. Carnival comes to Santiago in February and you will see Mardi Gras-like celebrations all over with costumes, floats and all.
Golfing
If you are a golfer you have come to the right place. There are several professional golf courses in the area where you can practice your game and be challenged by the course. The Aromas Golf Club is situated in the mountains and from its elevation you can see picturesque views of the Cibao Valley. This is an 18 hole course that has been around since 1980.
Baseball
If you love baseball and are in Santiago at the right time make sure to go to Cibao Stadium. Its primary use is for baseball practice but is the home of the team The Aguilas Cibaenas. You will definitely get caught up in the hype for this team if you go to a game. The locals are real baseball fans. Concerts and other entertainments are held here as well and have been since its opening in 1958.
Kaskada Park
Kaskada Park will offer your family a fun yet wet time. This is a water park that has so much to do you won’t know what to do first. There are several pools of different sizes appropriate for toddlers to adults that know how to dive and swim. Each of these pools has a different theme so you can change up from octopus heaven to a pirate hide a way.
Puerto Plata is a National Park
Puerto Plata is a National Park in the province of Santiago that features a huge statue of Christ based on the one in Rio de Janeiro surrounded by an incredible botanical garden. The primary architecture in the city is Victorian with many ginger-bread painted ladies to view in bright and pastel colors. There are many shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs that will keep you occupied. Hike around in the gardens to see the many different species of plants or shop around town.
College Town
There are many students from other countries that come to Santiago
to study. Wherever there are college students there is much fun. Watch which clubs and restaurants they frequent and you will be sure to
have a good time.
