Getting Around in Punta Cana

Edit This

Punta Cana has a fairly good transportation system that can bring travelers to any place in the city or other parts of the Dominican Republic. If you are arriving at the Punta Cana airport, there are several types of airport transfer service for you to choose from. The most reliable airport transfer service is the Dominican Airport Transfers. This company has a website, and it accepts online booking.

If you are not traveling with a tour operator, the best way to get around Punta Cana and travel to neighboring towns is to rent a car. You can easily find car rental services in the airport and hotels, and some of the well-known car rental agencies that operate in Punta Cana include Budget, Europcar, Avis and Prestige. It is important that you get maximum insurance from the car rental company and familiarize yourself with the driving laws of the country.

Another convenient way to travel around in Punta Cana is by taxi. There are taxis stations in most hotels as well as popular destinations in the city. The taxis charge standard rates, and they accept pesos, dollars and euros. You should let the taxi driver know your exact destination and ask about the price before setting off for your destination.

The local buses provide the most affordable way to get around the city. However, they are often very crowded, and they may not operate according to schedule. Although the buses travel to most parts of the city, tourists usually prefer to travel by taxi or other forms of transportation.

Just came back from Grand Palladium Bavaro resort.  Went for a walk off the resort and caught a taxi - which was a young dominican driving a scooter.  This is the cheapest and most exciting way to get around but no helmets makes it a bit of a risk.
