Festivals in DominicaEdit This
Despite a multitude of local festivities, here are a few Domincan Republic festivals most popular among tourists.
The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is a large event with ties to the very essence of life in this Caribbean nation. Held in three separate localities across the country, this November festival is celebrated in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, and Sosua. The stage is shared between local artists still working to make a name for themselves and international jazz stars who are already working professionally. Aside from daily concerts on the main stage, there are also a number of workshops that you can enroll in if you're into playing jazz and want a unique hands-on experience. There are also special stage sets performed by bands that have a youthful teenage audience following, making this a family friendly festival. You'll find many local hotels offer rates and special packages for this event. You should mention that you're traveling to attend the festival when you book your room.
Other Major Festivals
Other major festivals worth looking into include the Santa Domingo Merengue festival in July and the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival, which does not have a set date for each year's occurrence. The film festival, especially, has a wide variety of event offerings. It is held on Cofresi beach and boasts film screenings, discussions, and VIP events. Like all smaller festivals and holidays, these festivals brag lively Latin music, colorful food, handmade crafts, and dancing.
