Things to do in Varadero

Edit This

Varadero in Cuba is known as resort town with many Varadero things to do. This is the largest of the resort towns in Cuba. Originally, this place was used as a dry dock, and most of the Spanish fleets stopped here. The city was founded in 1887, when several families from the nearby city wanted to build vacation homes. Today tourism is the main industry in Varadero.

Do Some Watersports at the Beach

The beach is the main destination in Varadero, and almost all activities take place near the ocean. The beach is more than 20 km long, and the white sand with the gorgeous blue water makes for a stunning sight. You can easily go out fishing for the day, see the underwater life by scuba diving, swim with dolphins, visit a submarine park, or take a trip on a glass-bottom boat.

Enjoy Parque Josone

The best spot to visit downtown is the Parque Josone. This is a little park in the middle of the city that has gardens and plenty of shady spots to cool down. The park contains several restaurants, a small lake, a gazebo, and many food stands. You can easily find a bench or spot of shade to cool off in the heat of the day. The park is open from 9am to 11pm daily.

Visit the Museum

If it should be rainy, or you need a break from the beach, then stop into the Museo Municipal Varadero. The building that contains the museum is the main draw, as it has a red tile roof, a gingerbread-like trim, and a blue and white color scheme. This is the traditional style in varadero, and is quite eye-catching. The exhibits inside, of course, are also worth a look.

Explore Ecological Park

On the eastern end of the peninsula is the Parque Ecologico Varahicacos. Here you can explore some caves that contain pictographs and walk some of the many paths through the forest. A section of this park actually holds hotels, but the main area is all nature. The park is open from 9am to 4:30pm and the entry fee is about $3.50.

Go for Parachute Jumps

At the Centro Internacional de Deportes Aereos, you can jump out of a plane. They offer ultra-light flights and parachute jumps. The flights are about 10 minutes long, and you take flight from the beach. You can also do a tandem parachute jump. This is a great way to see the view from the top, and will certainly get your adrenaline going.
