Things to do
Edit ThisThe British Virgin Islands consist of more than 50 islands, and there is no shortage of things to do while visiting any one of the 50. Some top picks for things to do would be the following:
Sage Mountain National Park is home to the highest peak in the BVI, Sage Mountain at 1,716 feet. The trail begins at the parking lot and leads you in a loop to the peak itself. Along the way, you travel through a small rain forest that is sometimes shrouded in mist. The forest has seen deterioration due to clearing of the land for sugarcane, cotton, and other crops. To preserve the rain forest that you see today, the park became a national park in 1964 to protect the remaining rain forest. On the trek to the peak you will see guavas, mamey trees, mountain doves, and thrushes. Once at the peak, you will marvel at the spectacular views. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk, and entry is only $3.
Dolphin Discovery is fun for the whole family. On the island of Tortola, the Dolphin Discovery is a unique experience where you come eye to eye with the beloved bottle nose dolphin. There are two options that let you get up close and personal with the dolphins: you can do the Royal Swim $139, where the dolphins will tow you around their seaside pen, or you can opt for the Discovery $79, where you are able to touch the Dolphins. Whichever option you chose, being able to get this close to these happy dolphins will make this an experience you won't forget.
Mount Healthy National Park is a great place to picnic and take in the remains of an 18th century sugar plantation. You will see a restored windmill, ruins of a mill, storage areas, stables, a hospital, a factory with boiling houses, and many other unique houses. The park is opened daily from dusk to dawn, and best of all its free.
The Baths are located on Virgin Gorda island, and are the most celebrated sight. Giant boulders are scattered about the water and beach. Some form beautiful little grottoes, and others are the size of houses. The best time to visit is in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds. For a little privacy walk northward to Spring Bay, the Crawl, Little Trunk, Valley Trunk, or head south to Devil's Bay. This is the perfect place to unwind, swim, play, and relax.
