El castillo Travel Guide
Edit This The best resource for sights, hotels, restaurants, bars, what to do and seeSituated on the San Juan river which markes the border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, El Castillo is a little out of the way and is reached by boat from San Carlos, situated where the San Juan river and Lake Nicaragua meet.
El Castillo itself is a fort with great historical importance as it was the last line of defence against enemy armies and pirates wanting to raid Granada. It is a pleasant town with a few basic accomodation options and small museum in the fort itself.
