This busy and commercial town have a long tradition of resistance and independence since the time of the Spanish conquest right up until the 36-year Armed Conflict, and more recently the devastation left by Hurrican Stan in 2003.
Today it is a MUST on any visitors itinerary to the lake. A day trip will give you time to visit the infamous Maximon, the local catholic church, and small weaving museum run by the Cojolya Association.
