The Amazon of Corcovado is populated by a “who's who” of endangered species, including the puma, jaguar, tapir, poison dart frogs and crocodiles.
Corcovado Trek Day 21 Puerto Jiménez – Los Patos Corcovado National Park Basically, the first day you will start from Los Patos station to Sirena Biological Station, before los patos station you have to cross the river several times and you will have spectacular landscapes. After reaching the ranger station of Los Patos you will hike 20 km (12 mile) across the heart of Corcovado Park to Sirena Biological Station on the Pacific Coast, along the way you will see a lot wildlife, You will be starting the real adventure into Corcovado National Park, it has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. The climate is very hot and humid which enables the trees to grow to heights of 70 meters. The park contains fourth of the tree species of Costa Rica. Corcovado protects over 400 species of birds, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles and 139 mammals. Corcovado is one of the only two places in the country where are living squirrel monkeys. When you are very lucky you can spot the harpy eagle, which’s in extinction. This day you will hike 8-9 hours with your guide. Accommodation: at Sirena Ranger Station. [Breakfast, box- Lunch and Dinner] Day 22 Sirena Biological Station Your base camp overlooks a spectacular, wild tropical beach surrounded by a vast rain forest wilderness. Habitat of jaguar, tapir, squirrel monkey, peccaries and a healthy population of scarlet macaws. Today you hike and explore the surrounding environment including a night walk with flashlights in search of nocturnal wildlife. Overnight: Sirena at Corcovado National Park (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 23 - Sirena -Sirena – Puerto Jimenez We will depart early in the morning, after breakfast, to begin the long, hot hike through dense rainforest and beach, the hike time is approximately 7 hours and once we arrive at Carate, our jeep 4x4 is waiting from your, transfer back to Puerto Jimenez 3 hours later. Spend the nigh in Puerto Jimenez. Overnight: Marcelina Hotel (Breakfast, box-Lucnch). End my services. NOTE 1, NIGHT WALK SIRENA AROUND: for those guys who want to explore a night walk with flashlights in search of nocturnal wildlife, the habitat of jaguar, tapir, and peccaries this is one of the best places in Central America to watch wildlife. NOTE 2, ACCOMODATION: Your will sleep at accommodation at la sirena is really basic, special the build is designed for teachers, researchers and nature lover tourists, but yours can find the basic things like, toilet, bathroom, potable water, each Sheet(s). Sheets are not provided, bring a second one to sleep on top of if you want, and remember weight when packing. NOTE 3, FOOD INFORMATION: the meals at Sirena biological station are cooked by the guide and the park rangers is typical Costa Rican food, please advice in your request if a special diet is request. NOTE 4, TRAIL LOS PATOS: in rainforest covered with roods could be muddy, distance, 20 kms, 12 miles, time, 8/9 hours from los patos station, if you start walking from Guadalupe is 13kms more, in total 33kms.
