San Ignacio is about 100 miles West of Belize City, and it can be reached through the Western Highway , one of the few fully paved roadways in the country, in about 1 hour and a half. The bus used to be the favorite mean of transportation: from Belize City , the fare used to be about US$7 to catch an express bus that would take you to San Ignacio (called Cayo by the locals) via Belmopan in about two and a half hours.
