There is an abundance of things to do in Western Samoa. Sights include museums, beaches, mountains and monuments. Western Samoa's astounding natural beauty attracts many tourists every year. By visiting the various attractions in Western Samoa you can learn more about the country's history and culture.

Museums

Samoa museum is located on Beach road in Apia. It is a small museum which offers a reflection on Samoa's history. At this museum you can gain a better understanding of the local heritage and culture. Another museum in this region is Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. The house of Robert Louis Stevenson was converted into a museum when he died. This interesting museum is worth a visit. There are beautiful gardens that surround the museum which have an abundance of local plants species.

Markets

Mingle with locals at one of the markets. The vibrant markets in Western Samoa offer a glimpse into local culture and are a good option for a days outing. The markets sell fresh produce as well as souvenirs and gifts. In the center of Apia there are 3 markets. At the harbor you will find a fish market where the fisherman sell their catches from the day. There is a fruit and vegetable market located by the bus stand. Make sure that you try out the variety of locally produced fruits on offer. The third market sells a variety of products and is a good place to pick up gifts for friends and family back home.

Government Building

Every morning there is a flag raising ceremony and parade at Apia's government buildings. This is held by the police.

Sports

For golf enthusiasts, Apia has a 18-hole golf course located at Faleata. There are many hiking trails in the forests and mountains that surround the city of Apia.

Beaches

Along the eastern coast of Upolu are many beaches. The beaches are beautiful however it is not possible to swim at the majority of the beaches.

Caves

Piula cave is located at Fatumea. At this cave there is a pool that has formed naturally. The pool is a good place to take a refreshing swim.

Uafato Conservation Reserve

At Uafato Conservation Reserve you can relax in the peaceful tropical forests. This is the perfect outing for bird watchers as the reserve is home to many different species of birds. The reserve is located on the east coast of Upolu. There are walking trails through the breath taking scenery. Waterfalls are another attraction.
