Family Travel Ideas in Western Samoa

Edit This

Western Samoa Family Travel is a good idea if your family members like a little adventure and dream of visiting beaches, rainforests, caves and fields of lava.

Paia Dwarf's Cave

Paia village, Savaii Island

The kids will love this 1 km long cave which is actually an ancient lava tube. It is said to be inhabited by dwarfs even today. You’ll need a day to explore the cave. It’s important to get yourself a guide from the Paia village.

Falealupo Rainforest

Savaii

Rainforests are always intriguing and exciting no matter what your age. This low-lying tropical rainforest reserve has a treetop canopy walkway suspended about 131 feet above the ground.

The Robert Louis Stevenson Homestead

Vailima village, Apia Foothills

Which child hasn’t heard of the children’s classic ‘Treasure Island’ written by R.L. Stevenson? Seeing the famous author’s home will be a treat for the entire family. The house is  a lovingly restored colonial structure where the author spent the last 5 years of his life.

There’s a guided tour available that will take you through the rooms, the author’s personal belongings and the library where Stevenson wrote his books. Remember to include the Stevenson home in your Western Samoa Family Travel plans.

Satoalepai Wetlands Sanctuary

Savaii

This sanctuary in the Satoalepai village offers a unique experience both kids and adults will enjoy--a swim with endangered green turtles. These gentle giants are raised in the sanctuary and then released into the sea once they’re grown up.

Saleaula Lava Fields

Savaii

These lava fields are an extraordinary sight and resulted from the Mt. Matavanu eruption 100 years ago. You can also see the remains of the village and a church that was inundated by the lava flow. A must on your Western Samoa Family Travel itinerary.

Lalomanu Beach

Upolu Island

This is one of the most unspoiled and beautiful beaches in Samoa. There are endless stretches of soft white sand, and a gem-like lagoon with translucent waters packed with exotic marine life. The lagoon is part of a marine reserve where you can snorkel or scuba dive into a whole new world of color and mystery.

Waterfalls Galore

In Upolu, the Papapapai-Tai Falls are spectacular. Fresh spring water cascades 328 feet down the cliffs. Imagine the thunder, the spray, the power!

Or, you could pack a picnic lunch and head to the Sopoaga Falls in Upolu and enjoy your feast while the falls thunder below you.

If you’d like a fresh water swim, there’s the Afu Aau falls in Savaii which hurtle down from the rainforest into a delightful deep pool.
