Invercargill is the most southern city in New Zealand.

Locals have it that penguins wonder the streets during the winter, even during the summer the visitor can get a taste of the forties wind.

Invercargill is home to the Southland Museum which can be visited in a day.
It has a good history of the Southland region with displays and documents over 2 levels.

This is an interesting stop off for those travelling the Southern Scenic Route which runs along a crescent at the bottom of South Island.
