Marlborough is a major winegrowing region of New Zealand. Located in the northeast corner of the South Island, it is sheltered from the prevaling winds and has a warm dry climate.
The inter-island ferry goes between Wellington to Picton 5 or 6 times a day operated by two companies (Bluebird and Inter-Islander) through Marlborough, where sometimes whales and dolphins can be seen in the sound especially in summer.
