Getting Around in Wellington

Edit This
Wellington City and the surrounding suburbs have excellent bus and train service. Tickets are available on board, in the train station, at City Hall and various "dairies."

Taxis are available at stands in the city center, train station, ferry terminals, airport and most larger shopping venues. Transport vans are also available for groups and usually have towed luggage trailers.

Some of the more interesting attractions and views require walks up steep streets or staircases. This is particularly the case in the Lambton Quay/Terrace area. Keep an eye open for various combinations of publically accessible hotel and shopping center elevators and escalators that can get you topside with minimal aerobic effort. The famous Wellington Cable Car hoists those disinclined to the incline from Lambton Quay to Kelburn in turn-of-the-century style for a small fee.
