Rotorua is a geothermal wonderland.  In addition to providing the foundation for regional Maori mythology, geothermal activity in the region has spawned a brisk and longstanding spa culture and tourist trade. Thermal pools, parks and mudpits abound. Don't be surprised to see steam issuing from the ground.

Also take the oppotunity to visit a traditional Maori Marae.
