Skyline from Royal Park, Melbourne
Maree Conway
Melbourne has an impressive collection of museums dedicated to various topics, such as the immigration history and the Olympics. You can also do some interesting city walks that will lead you city baths and to the most interesting and famous historical buildings in the city. Have a look at the ICI building which was the first one to break the 132 foot building height limit in Melbourne or visit the six terraced house designed by Charles Webb. Some travellers dare to search for haunted ghosts in the Banana Alley Vaults.

Royal Park, Melbourne
Located on the edge of the Melbourne CBD, Royal Park is a wonderful inner city respite, frequented by locals walking their dogs, or who cut across the park on the way to and from work, runners, bike riders, rollerbladers....you get the idea. Hot air balloons use the Park as their landing and take-off spot on some mornings, creating an impressive sight in the early morning light. The wonderful Melbourne trams run through the middle of the park, but it's not as bad as it sounds - they create yet another unique characteristic for the park.
The park is more..

St Kilda beach is becoming more popular with tourists with many backpackers opting to stay here rather than in the city. There is the beach, seabaths, the recently redone pier and many restaurants, bars and shops on surrounding acland street and fitzroy street. definitely worthwhile visiting while in melbourne! the summer time is particularly popular and the st kilda festival runs annually in feb.

Controversial when first built, melbournians have grown to love this landmark. it is located in the city, opposite flinders street station and is home to many up-class bars, resaurants, cinemas, galleries (the ian potter gallery) and shops. there are regular tour guides. there is also a flurry of activity including regular festivals, street entertainers and the weekly farmers market. loathed and loved when first built (i think in 2002), it has now become the much loved heart of melbourne.
