Bruny Island

Edit This
Bruny Island is accessible as a day trip from Hobart, but to do the island justice you should take a weekend. The northern part of the island is largely devoted to grazing, but there are several towns with great swimming beaches, and the hike to Elizabeth Bay is well worth the effort.

The southern part of the island contains more for the tourist. The narrow isthmus is home to roosting muttonbirds, and a beautiful ocean beach. Hike to Fluted Cape from Adventure Bay, or walk up Mt Mangana. Drive to the southern tip of the island to visit old lighthouse, and Cloudy Bay.

To get to Bruny Island, drive south from Hobart on the Southern Outlet, then take the road to Margate, and follow it all the way to Kettering. Ferries to and from the island depart every 1 to 2 hours. To get more information, including the ferry timetable, visit Bruny Island Online.
