The Grand Chancellor, formerly the Sheraton Hotel, is the most recent large hotel built in the city, and occupies a prime piece of real estate on the waterfront of Sullivans Cove. A great deal of protest was raised over its construction, since the very position which gives it's rooms such fine views destroyed the view for anyone living north of it. Wrest Point Hotel Hobart

The Wrest Point Hotel Casino opened in 1973, being Australia's first legal casino (more controversy). It's octagonal tower stands out clearly along the Sandy Bay waterfront, south of the city. Besides rooms, the hotel has a large convention center, a restarant and night club, and of course, the casino. Rooms start at $A 109 per night.
