Darwin can get extremely hot. Therefore, it might be a good idea to plan your explorations in the morning. Darwin offers some good museums and galleries with impressive aboriginal art collection. Most sights concern historical architecture and the buildings are at a walkable distance. The Bicentennial Park and the Botanic Gardens lend themselves perfectly for a lazy afternoon, the same as the nearby beaches do. ‘The Aquascene’ (Daly St and the Esplanade, tel: 981 7837) offers a closer look at the waterworld and in the Darwin Wharf area, the scene of this aquaworld, you can also set off for harbour cruises. For those interested, Darwin lends itself well for scuba diving and exploration of the wildlife parks, such as Beery Field, Lichtfield National Park and the Crocodylus Park.
