Family Travel Ideas in Ho Chi Minh City

Edit This
Ho Chi Minh City is far from a conventional family travel destination and is filled overcrowded museums painting gory pictures of war and struggle. Though fascinating for history and culture lovers, it leaves little scope for family activities and attractions. Having said that, there are a few places that can be considered nice for a day out with your family in tow.

Zoo and Botanical Gardens

This is a pleasant and natural getaway (located at District 1), housing a vast collection of rare and indigenous botanical species and more than 150 species of animals, including the big cats, orangutans, Asian elephants, black bears and a host of reptiles. The gardens were created in 1860 by a celebrated French botanist to preserve the ecology of the region. An interesting ancient temple and museum are also housed within the sprawling premises of the gardens.

Bink Quoi Tourist Village

This destination plays perfectly to the family tourist audience. Located on the banks of the Sai Gon River, a few kilometers from the center of the town, the Bink Quoi Tourist Village offers a range of enjoyable activities like river cruises, boat rides, never-seen-before water puppet shows and cultural performances. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, and features a nice evening dinner cruise with a fascinating cultural show.

The Saigon Opera House

This one’s for families with slightly older children who enjoy watching operas together. The stately-looking Saigon Opera House on District 1 is a good place to catch musical concerts, traditional Vietnamese dance performances, ballet renditions and a wide array of other performing arts.

Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre

The Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre is a good place to take the children for enjoyable puppet shows performed on a water-bed. The acts are based on the ancient lifestyle of locals, popular folklore and legends of mythical creatures. Live musical instrument renditions and singing by talented musicians intersperse the hour-long performances.

Dam Sen Water Park

This is a nice place to beat the heat and keep the children cool. Dam Sen Water Park features several theme pools and slides for adults and children. They have a nice wave pool that is extremely popular, along with a relaxing zone where visitors can chill out on comfortable chairs. The water park complex houses many snack stalls and food outlets, along with a souvenir shop.

Though not a convention leisure holiday destination, Ho Chi Minh City has a few good family attractions that can be discovered by digging deep.
