Bars and Cafes
Edit ThisMGM
Edit ThisIn case you were wondering, the newest supercafé with a nightclub up top has no links to the Disney Corporation, but stands for “Maximum Greatest Music.” The music is loud, the décor is loud and the people posing in their designer sunglasses and sipping fluorescent drinks are loud. The prices and the furnishings are certainly “maximum” while “greatest” is a matter of opinion. But with tunes alternating between hip-hop, trance, R&B, pop and anything in between, at least one track will please your ears. Coffee starts at VND29,000 with fruit juices at VND39,000.

Cloudburst Bar
Edit ThisCloudburst Bar is a low-budget late-night British/Canadian/Vietnamese-run bar in Saigon's backpacker central. At night-time, it is primarily geared towards sophisticated (alternative/indie/rock/dance) music lovers, but caters to a wide range of customers. Early on in the evening and the week, it tends to be dominated by locals and tourists, but late and at the weekend there is a much heavier expat presence. Whilst the presence of "bar girls" is seemingly ubiquitous in Saigon, this is definitely a female-friendly bar and, whilst not geared towards this, it also more..

Enigma
Edit ThisEnigma is a downtown winebar. As such it charges western prices (45-200,000vnd a glass) for wine, but provides western style comforts (clean loos, nice decor, zero hassle).

159 Bui Vien Street Dist 1
Hochiminh City
The bar is located right in the backpacker area of Saigon. The
nightlife here is crowded and bustling, especially after 9pm. River
Bar's owner is Ms. Truc Giang, a charming hostess. Together with Giang,
you can see many beautiful Vietnamese girls hang around. It is becoming
a famous pick-up place in Saigon. I like the simple atmosphere and the
easy decor. A good place to relax after a hard long day (doing whatever
in Vietnam).

Allez Boo
Edit ThisThe premiere backpacker bar in the main backpacker district is Allez Boo. It's not terrible, but it is terribly predictable. Busy with the just-off-the-bus-crowd; open air; bamboo; somewhat overpriced; ninety-nine percent western except for staff, pool hustlers and assorted hangers-on; playing top forty western hits...
Toilets are clean, the selection varied and the food edible, but watch yourself with the crowds outside...

Q Bar
Edit ThisNot as good as its original incarnation, but not bad regardless. Suffers a certain synthetic cache from being right opposite the Caravelle Hotel, and certainly reflects this in the drink prices, but is nonetheless one of the most thoughtfully laid out bars in the central area. Music is acceptable and laid back.
It's a good place to meet upmarket expats and five star tourists, but, aside from the odd glamour puss, most of the vietnamese traffic is either post '75 wealthy, or pre/post Apocalypse Now rough trade... As with any generalisation, there more..

Window’s Garden Cafe

No expense has been spared in ensuring this well-known watering hole has all the trimmings of a good supercafé. Water features aplenty, a terrace festooned with lush greenery, a sound system to blast out music at a volume so loud it makes your toes curl and a rabbit warren’s worth of different rooms on different floors with different decors. Prices render this place the reserve of successful Saigon businessman (coffee starts at VND35,000) who brings his lady friend(s) to an elaborate treat of ice-cream sundae at VND55,000.
