One Pillar Pagoda
The One Pillar Pagoda is located in the west of Hanoi. The name of the pagoda is Dien Huu which translates to "long lasting happiness." The pagoda was constructed from wood in 1049 when King Ly Thai Tong was in power. The pillar was ruined by the French in 1954 but has since been reconstructed.

Items from various hill tribes offer insight into the tribal way of life. Displays of war items give more information of the wars fought in the surrounding areas. Exhibitions are explained in English for the benefit of tourists.
Sword Restored Lake
Sword Restored Lake is located at the city center. Legend has it that the lake was named after King Le Thai To's Sword. The sword helped him fight successfully in many battles. When the wars were over King Le Thai To was on a boat on the lake and a huge turtle rose from the sea and took his sword. According to the legend he believed that the sword was given to him by a genie to help him win the wars and when the battles were finished the genie had returned to reclaim the sword.
