Nightlife and Entertainment in HanoiEdit This
Hanoi nightlife might not be as crazy as in other places, but there are still plenty of locales to soak in the local nightlife. Hanoi is one of the largest cities in Vietnam, but it was once the main city of French Indochina. It is on the Red River, and has been in existence for over 1,000 years. This city is considered one of the top destinations in the world, and is celebrating its 1,000-year anniversary in 2010.The Main Areas for Nightlife
Most of the nightlife can be found in the old quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake. The police keep a tight reign over the nightlife, so it rarely gets out of control. Most of the bars, in fact, are not open later than midnight.Grab a Beer
Beer bars are the nightlife spots of choice after work, and a great place for a draught beer is Bai Hoi, found at 68 Hang Quat. The beer here is good and cheap. This is not a very polished place, but the beer is the best. If you are looking for a more upscale beer bar, then you should try Sofitel cocktail lounge.
Lan Chin is considered a pavement beer hall, as there are no walls but plenty of chairs and tables underneath an iron roof. The food here is excellent, as is the beer. This is a popular spot that locals frequent, and is located at 2 Pho Trang Tien. Another fun pub is the Spotted Cow, which is run by Australians and is the meeting place of the Hash House Harriers.
If you want something a bit more elegant or fashionable, then stop by Ho Gom Xanh. You can get western spirits at the bar, though the prices for these are steep. The show leans more towards the burlesque-style found in Paris. This is a spot where the locals like to come out and play.Listen to Some Jazz
If you like jazz, then stop in to Jazz Club Minh. The jazz is played live, and a local saxophone player frequently performs here. He owns the club, and plays Charlie Park and Coltrane tunes. It is a great place to get away from the fast pace of the city.Check out the Clubs
A great gay-friendly club is Apocalypse Now and is found downtown. This is where the people with attitudes gather, and is a staple club in the city. A very contemporary club is Ly Club, or Club 51. Relax in a divan or sofa and listen to violin and piano music as you sip a drink. Everything is brightly colored, and the air is permeated by the smell of fresh flowers. This is where you can see some of the best cabaret acts in the country.
