Mekong River Cruise

Another nice day trip from the busy city is a river cruise of some of the waterways in the Mekong Delta. It's generally much cooler here than in Ho Chi Minh City, which is a very welcome break! Meandering through the dense mangroves is a very eerie experience, but the scenery is beautiful. The further you proceed along, the fronds hang over the channels until it appears that you're traveling through a "tunnel" in the foliage... Very cool! You can go with an organized tour, or just go it on your own and hire a small boat when you get there. Package tours often come with a trip to a coconut candy factory and a local cafe. It sometimes includes a visit to a local house where you will be entertained with traditional dancing and music. Be sure to check out Unicorn Island, the home of the coconut Monk... long story... but make sure you ask; it's a pretty good one!
