Lonely Planet Vietnam

Edit This
Unfortunately much of the data is carried forward from earlier editions and therefore the value of the information is seriously devalued. This claim is further substantiated by others writing on the Lonely Planet web site.

Quote:"A guide should not be considered to be an accurate , precise document ... just smiled at the errors and had fun anyway ... you didn't die, did you?"

The word 'die' is pertinent for many rely on these guides for planning.

Quote:"I just came back from ... Vietnam and Cambodia in which I used, ... a LP guide ... I noticed that Vietnam's LP was full of mistakes and inexactness, such as the former Hotel de Ville based in Ho Chi MInh which is described by the ignorant author (Mason Florence,Robert Storey) as a ... former hotel! Everyone with a little knowledge of French knows that hotel de ville means 'city hall' and not a place for accomodation!"

My recommendation is that you use your local reference library to determine which guide books suits your purposes - then buy the top two on your list, preferably from a local bookshop.

A constantly evolving web site is found at www wompom.ca/vietnam which is updated almost daily.
