A medium sized city located 477km from Bangkok, Surin is the center of the province that bears its name. Center now for much of the collection of Jasmin Rice grown in the region, it also is the closest Thai city (and Airport) to Angar Wat just 60 KL away across the Cambodian Border. However the airport has been closed to the public since 1999.Surin's main attraction is undoubtedly the annual Elephant Roundup, at the Surin Sport Park. At other times of the year, artifacts associated with elephant capture and training can be seen at Surin Museum.
