Things to do

Wat Kaek or Salakaewkoo as it is often known is one of the most bizarre attractions in Thailand. Pocessing sculptures some of which are up to five stories tall, it is a very strange mix of Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism.
The Maekong River is particularly beautiful in Nong Khai and there are some exceptionally nice places to stay along its banks.
The Phu Pra Bat Historical Park and hour and a half away, while technically in Udorn Province, is easiest to reach from Nong Khai and many people come here especially to see the very strange rock formations there, a place that was settled more 3500 years ago.
The Taa Sadej market in the centre of town is very famous, and many Thais and foreigners come here especially to see its wonderful array of things from Laos, China, Vietnam and Thailand.
