Top 5 Must Do's in Koh Samui
Edit ThisKoh Samui Must Do's are incredibly varied. Although it's Thailand's third largest island, Koh Samui is still rather small. Naturally, the beaches are the primary reason that tourists and locals alike head to Koh Samui. Must do's also include waterfalls, spas, temples and (of course) diving. Here's a look at Koh Samui's Top 5 Must Do's and what you can expect from each.
1. Beaches
If you dream of long days filled with white sand and blue waters, Koh Samui is the place to go. There are plenty of pristine beaches along the perimeter of the island, including Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam and Bophut beaches. Spend the day relaxing in a lounge chair or on a beach mat taking in the palm trees and perhaps indulging in a massage or picking out a henna tattoo, both provided by enterprising locals roaming the beaches. You'll always find the food delicious and the sea warm and inviting.
2. Na Muang Waterfalls 1 and 2
These two waterfalls are definite Koh Samui must do's. Na Muang 1 is easier to reach, making it ideal for those with younger children or those whose fitness levels are below average. It consists of one main fall. Na Muang 2 requires a more strenuous trip and culminates in a many tiered waterfall. Na Muang falls have been visited by Thai royalty in the past. Wear shoes with good grips when visiting.
3. Tamarind Retreat and Spa
Give your skin and body a treat after all of that time in the sun and sea by visiting Tamarind Retreat and Spa. The steam room and cool pool are both great for flushing out toxins in the skin, and you can help the process along with any of the treatments and facials on offer. Book yourself a Thai massage, with or without oil or powder. If you decide you want more, why not stay at one of the villas to extend your visit?
4. Wat Phra Yai
This temple is the site of another of the great Koh Samui must do's: Big Buddha. You can climb the stairs to get a close-up view of the 12 meter high golden statue, or just admire the view from the upper level of the base. There are shops and restaurants surrounding the temple, and Bophut Beach is just a short distance away.
5. Diving
Some of the best diving in Thailand can be had in Koh Samui and the
surrounding waters. If you'd like to have a meet and greet with the
creatures of the deep, just head to Bophut, Sairee or Chaweng Beach to
find a dive operator. You can explore the colorful waters around the
island, head to Angthong National Marine Park or Sail Rock where you may
even spot some whale sharks.
