Sights in Koh Samui
Edit ThisThese rocks, not far from Lamai beach, are notorious for their slight resemblance to certain features of both male and femal anatomy.
*******************************
There are Koh Samui sights that must not be missed. Thailand is known as “the land of smiles”, and for good reason. It is a country abundant in culture, natural beauty, and the friendliest people on earth. The islands around Thailand are the most sought out destinations of visitors to the country.
Religious Statues and Temples
The Big Buddha Temple is a famous site in Koh Samui, on the northern coast of the island. Though Thailand is full of Buddha statues, none compare to this twelve-meter tall golden statue. Big Buddha was erected in 1972, and now welcomes visitors to what has been coined “Big Buddha Beach”. Around the Buddha are many shops and restaurants, as well as a meditation center.
The Kunaram Temple is famous for being the home of the mummified monk. Loung Pordaeng, the famous ossified monk, and is said to have died over 25 years ago while sitting in the meditation position. Miraculously his body has decomposed only slightly, and he can still be visited at the temple today, sitting in eternal meditation.
Wat Lamai temple and cultural hall is the perfect destination for an afternoon visit. The temple is an oft-used site for locals holding community events, weddings, concerts and religious festivals. Next door to the temple is a cultural hall featuring a collection of handiwork and historical artifacts, native to Koh Samui.
Natural Sights
Hin Ta and Hin Yai are natural rock formations known as, “the grandmother and grandfather rocks”, located on Lamai beach. Parental discretion is advised when visiting this site with children, as the rocks are famous for their resemblance to the male and female genitalia.
The Hin Lad waterfall is a spectacular destination to get away from it all and into nature. Located south of Nathon, a short walk through a stunning jungle setting will reveal a sparkling waterfall complete with a lagoon for swimming. Less crowded than the better-known waterfalls in Koh Samui, a visit to Hin Lad can easily turn into an all day event.
Full Moon Party
The full moon party on Koh Phangan beach is a sight in a category all its own. It’s also an event that cannot be missed when visiting Koh Samui. The all night beach party happens once a month, at the appearance of the full moon. Beginning at dusk and raging until the early morning hours, ten to thirty thousand people show up to dance, drink, and release their inhibitions.
Whether you’re looking for relaxation, adventure or an all night party, Koh Samui is an ideal destination for the aesthetically inclined traveler. There is a little something for everyone in this tropical paradise. After a visit to the island, you’ll be sure to leave Thailand understanding why it’s called “the land of smiles”.

Secret Buddha Garden
Edit ThisThis place is worth a visit. The "Secret Buddha Garden" (some people call it "magic garden") was built in the hills of Samui in the last couple of years. It is told that only man did it. The only way to get there is through the jungle, rivers and mountains by a four-wheel-drive jeep. The journey takes about 2 hours starting at the back of the Lamai temple and is only recommended for experienced "outdoor" drivers. If you want to go the "easy" way book the trip with a travel agency on the island.
