Beaches in Koh Samui

Edit This

Koh Samui beaches are some of the best in Thailand and for good reason. The pristine soft, white sand and blue water all framed by lush coconut trees makes you feel like you're stepping into a postcard. And, the best part about Koh Samui beaches is that there's one to suit every type of traveller, from budget to luxury and single to family travel. Here's a look at some of the top Koh Samui beaches and what you can expect from each.

Chaweng Beach

Chaweng is definitely the busiest of the beaches on Koh Samui. It's geared mostly toward single adults, and families will find that there's not much for the kids. The seven kilometers of beach stretch out around some of the best nightlife on the island, and you'll find accommodations that suit your budget and tastes, be they low key or high brow.

Lamai Beach

The second major beach on the island is Lamai, and it also happens to be arguably the best of the Koh Samui beaches. It's chilled out and a bit more separate from the town life than Chaweng, but you'll still find great entertainment and restaurants nearby.

Bophut Beach

Only two kilometers long, Bophut Beach is located near the Big Buddha (although there is another beach that's closer, aptly named Big Buddha Beach). A charming addition is the Fisherman's Village, which includes old houses, some excellent shopping and plenty of restaurants.

Maenam Beach

This beach is incredibly quiet and an ideal spot to grab and hammock and relax, making it suitable for any visitors to the island. Maenam beach does include some of the biggest deluxe resorts on Koh Samui, so if your tastes run in that direction, then this is the place to go. However, it's also considered to be a backpackers haven, and the two types of travelers mingle quite pleasantly.

Lipa Noi Beach

Lipa Noi is known for having the best sunsets of all of the Koh Samui beaches. It's incredibly quiet during the week, so it's perhaps not ideal for those who are looking for a good time and plenty of nightlife. However, the shallow waters make it extremely family friendly. There are several bungalows and restaurants not far from the beach, making this a relaxing vacation spot.

Taling Ngam Beach

The most remote and isolated location in all of Koh Samui is Taling Ngam. It also happens to be the location of Baan Taling Ngam Resort, an extremely high-end resort that will appeal to all luxury travelers. Book yourself at the resort, and you'll feel you have all of Taling Ngam beach to yourself.
