Wat Phra Singh officially known as Wat Lee Chiang Phra, It is the community center of the old city and is famous a temple being the original home of Jade Buddha which is now is housed in Bangkok. It however was orginally constructed in 1343 AD to enshrine the relics of Phaya Kham Fu, the sixth ruler of Chiang Mai. One may partake in many festivals and event throughout the year at this temple. Like most things in Chiang mai, it is the people that make it special, with monks that like to talk with you at this temple to the school children in the temple school on the grounds, here is a active and welcoming temple. Be sure to see the hand painted old thai Buddhist wall murals decorating the walls of Wiharn Lai Kham, while you are there. It is a very popular temple with tourists due to the classical Lanna architecture but well worth an early morning trip as to miss the tour guidesm and tuk tuk drivers...
