Orchard Road Shopping District
This shopping area is the most famous in all of Singapore. It attracts thousands of tourists with its unique restaurants, colonial architecture, and various malls. Since the culture of this city-state is so distinctive, shopping is somewhat of an educational experience. Kids love the hustle and bustle of the area and the interesting sights, colors, and sounds that enhance the shopping experience. Visiting the Orchard Road Shopping District also gives you and your family the chance to try traditional Singapore foods and see the residence of the president of Singapore. There is no entrance fee to this area, but you may end up spending a bit of money anyways due to the intriguing foods and products you´ll find.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
On the north side of the Orchard Road Shopping District is the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Free to the public and open from 5 a.m. until midnight, these gardens are lush and colorful. For a special treat you can visit the National Orchid Garden, open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students. If you have young children, they're sure to enjoy the Jacob Ballas Children´s Garden which is part of the Botanic Gardens.
Jurong Bird Park
This amazing free flight aviary and garden is any child´s dream. With 4 different aviaries in addition to exhibits for specific bird species, there´s so much to explore that you´d need a week to see it all. Lush foliage, tropical flowers, lagoons, and waterfalls adorn these impeccably created bird habitats. The African Waterfall Aviary is the largest in the world and contains a lily pond and full-sized African warriors and huts. Of particular interest are the black masked love birds, found only in Africa. The Lory Loft is the largest Lory aviary in the world. For a South American rain forest experience, you can visit the Jungle Jewels Flight Aviary, and if you want to see the birds that can be found locally, check out the Southeast Asia Birds Aviary. At the Jurong Bird Park, there is also a Panorail ride that goes from aviary to aviary. Adult admission to the bird park is S$18, a child's admission is S$9.
