When to Go in Olongapo City

There are many sites to see and activities to enjoy in Olongapo City. When to go depends on the weather conditions and events that are being held in the local area. Olongapa originated as a fishing village and during the war it served as a naval base. Over the years since Olangapo gained it's independence the area has grown in popularity among tourists.

Climate

Olongapo has a tropical climate. The temperatures do not vary greatly from season to season. Temperature averages range from 25 C to 28 C. November until February is the cool season when mild temperatures are experienced in the area. Temperatures at this time are normally in the range of 25 C and there is a minimal amount of rain. The weather from March until May is warm and temperatures are in the 28 C range. The wet season is from June until October. During the wet season there is a high level of rain and monsoons may occur. There are often floods during this season. The rain and floods can make it difficult to travel and you may have trouble getting around Olongapo City if there is excessive rainfall. The rain also hinders sightseeing activities and activities such as the Tree Top Adventure and Zoobic Safari. The surrounding mountainous area is good for hiking and outdoor activities which are not possible when there are heavy rains. Scuba diving conditions are also not ideal during this time. It is therefore best to visit Olongapo City from November until February when the weather becomes mild and dry.

Events

Olongo City celebrates many festivals. Festivals give tourists a better understanding of the local culture and traditions. The vibrant festivals are a fun to join in with and it may be worth your while to incorporate a festival into your trip. Sto Nino festival is held in January and centers around Jesus. The feature of this festival is parades where hundreds of pictures of Jesus are displayed. Sto Nino festival includes activities which do not center around religion. There is a significant Chinese population in Olongapo City and therefore Chinese New Year is celebrated in the area. This is held in February. The festival lasts for a few days featuring colorful dances, parades and delicious food. If you want to know more about Olongapo's history, June would be a good month to visit as Independence day falls in this month. There are many parades including military processions. The end of September hosts a tourism week which celebrates the local culture. During this week there are promotions for tourists and a variety of activities are arranged.
