Getting Around in Olongapo City
Edit ThisAir Travel
Olongapo City is served by Subic Bay International Airport which has one commercial airline – Pacific Pearl Airways. SBIA connects with Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which has flights from all over the world and is the initial gateway to the Philippines. From the airport there are buses, ferries, car rentals, and Jeepneys available to take you to Olongapo City.
Jeepney Travel
Jeepneys are a fun and unique way to access Olongapo City. Common throughout the Philippines these decorative jeep hybrids have been modified to be similar to a small bus. Relatively inexpensive Jeepney rides can be easily secured with licensed drivers who must charge regulated fees. Large Jeepneys can accommodate up to 17 people. An added convenience is a color-coded system where the color of each Jeepney indicates its route. There is also an abundance of taxis, pedicabs, and public utility tricycles that can also be rented for travel.
Ferry Travel
Ferries can be used to navigate around the seaside towns and islands. Currently there is no ferry directly to Olongapo City but there is a ferry connecting Milan to Orion, Bataan. From there one may travel overland for the remainder of the trip. Ferries are comfortable and air conditioned, and offer a beautiful view of the seaside.
Bus Travel
Two bus lines run daily from 4 a.m. to 6 p. m. to Olongapo terminal just behind the
city mall.
Travel by Light Rail (LRT)
The light rail is a safe and reliable way to get around the city. Trains are air conditioned and run each day from 5 a.m. to 9:30 or 10 p.m. Security personnel, accommodations for the disabled, and special seating for senior citizens and pregnant women make this an excellent alternative to more unconventional modes of transportation.
