Getting There in Cagayan de Oro

If you're planning a trip to Cagayan de Oro, you can get there by air, sea or land. Your options will be limited by you originate your travel, with plane and boat travel offering fewer options.

Plane

Lumbia Airport serves Cagayan de Oro and regular flights operated by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific travel to Cagayan de Oro from Manila and Cebu. From Manila the flight takes 1 1/2 hours and costs between P1850 and P3400 one-way. From Cebu the trip is only 50 minutes and costs between P1250 and P5000. A new airport, Laguindingan International, will be completed in 2011 and will offer a larger range of flights from other popular Asian destinations.

Boat

Cagayan de Oro is a port city serviced by Super Ferry, Cebu Ferries and Trans Asia. You can catch a 35-hour ferry from Manila for P891 (discount travel) to P3391 (2- person private state room) one-way with meals included. From Cebu the trip is 10 hours and costs between P300 and P735 (4-person cabin) one-way with meals. The ferry also runs from Iloilo, taking 15 hours and costing between P621 and P1101 (6- person cabin) one-way with meals.

Bus

Traveling by bus is limited to destinations within Mindanoa Island. The West Terminal in Cagayan de Oro operates buses to and from Iligan, Ozamiz, Pagadian and Zamboanga. The AgoraTerminal is located on the other side of town. Locals recommend that you go to the station at the correct time, guard you belongings, and don't hang around longer than necessary. However, it is the surrounding area that is the problem, while the bus terminal itself is quite safe. From Agora you can head to Gingoog City, Malaybalay, Valencia City and Butuan City. Trips generally cost between P100 and P500.
