Getting Around in Cagayan de Oro

Edit This

Cagayan de Oro is one of the more affluent cities in Mindanao, and it has a good public transportation system to meet the traveling needs of both locals and tourists. There are several types of transportation that you can take to get around in the city, and these include taxi cabs, jeepneys and motorelas.

All the taxis that serve the city are air-conditioned, and most of them are rather new. They are either white or yellow in color, and they have yellow plates. The rates are very reasonable, with a flag-down rate of 30 pesos, which remains unchanged for the first 500 meters, and 2.50 pesos for every 300 meters thereafter. The motorelas are another popular form of transportation in Cagayan de Oro. They are motor-powered tricycles, and they can take six to eight passengers at a time. Since they are small vehicles, they may not be suitable for plus-sized people. Usually, motorela drivers charge 6 pesos for a trip within the city center.

The jeepneys operate both within and beyond the city limits. They are bright-colored former army vehicles, and they cost 7.50 pesos for 4-kilometer trip. Jeepneys and buses are the preferred means of transportation for travel to the suburbs of the city, nearby towns and other parts of Mindanao. There are three bus terminals in Cagayan de Oro, and they provide transportation services to many Mindanao cities.

If you want to drive around on your own, you can rent a car from one of the many car rental companies in the city.
