The Safe River, Life Saver Foundation (Liceo de Cagayan University) offers day and night river taxi cruises down the Cagayan de Oro River. The boats can accommodate a maximum of 20 people and the 45-minute cruises are very popular with families.
The river taxis depart from the rear of the San Augustin Cathedral and take you to the mouth of Macajalar Bay. It’s a breathtaking trip. The river flows past various suburbs and towns for 90 km.
Monigue Cave
Caves are always a delight to children. Monigue Cave has an underground stream, so be prepared to get wet during your guided explorations. The spellbinding interior has some lovely sparkling stalactites and stalagmites, glittering crystals and interesting rock formations.

This museum has something for the whole family. On display are pre-historic artifacts and skeletal remains from a Huluga cave dating back to 350 A.D. The museum is also a treasure-house of the folkloric traditions of the area.

This living museum shows you how the indigenous tribes of Mindanao Island lived centuries ago. The beautiful setting of tropical gardens offers spectacular views of the coastline and the Macajalar Bay.

If you fancy the idea of seeing a remarkable collection of Chinese antiques from the various dynasties of China, this residence-turned-museum is the place for you. It was originally the home of the founders of Liceo de Cagayan University – Rodolfo Neri-Pelaez and Elsa Pelaez. It also exhibits their family heirlooms and memorabilia.
Mapawa Nature Park

This park is a wonderful place for both the adventurous and the laid-back. It’s close to the Malasag Eco-Tourism Village and features little waterfall pools for a swim and picnic tables under the huge trees. There’s a guided trek to the waterfalls, horseback riding and camping.
Macahambus Hill Cave and Gorge
Barangays of Lumbia and Bayanga
This is where the famous Battle of Macahambus Hill was fought between Filipinos and Americans in 1900. It resulted in the first victory for the Filipinos. The picturesque cave overlooks the Cagayan de Oro River and the Macahambus Gorge into which the enemy fell to their deaths. Steps lead down to the gorge which features a cave with an underground river.
