Las Pinas City was one of the earliest settlements in the Philippines and was founded around 1762. Historical records are unclear as to the exact year that the settlement began. Las Pinas started out as a fishing port and salt center. The city has been involved in wars including the Philippine Revolution during 1896. It was occupied by the Japanese during the Second World War.

Government

There are 20 municipal areas called barangays. The Philippines have a mayor and a vice mayor who serve a 3-year term. Las Pinas falls under the Manila Metro Council.

The city has received the "Clean and Green Hall of Fame" award as well as "The Global 500 Roll Of Honorr" awarded by the United Nations environmental program. It is also labeled as the " Most Competitive City in the Philippines."

The seasons include the dry season from November until April and the wet season from May until October. The city has a tropical climate. Low season is June to October due to typhoons and storms. November to February is high season. From March until May there are high temperatures.
