Museums in General Santos City
Edit This General Santos City, or Gensan, as the locals fondly call it is home to a few museums. One of the most famous is named after General Santos himself.
The General Santos Museum
The General Paulino Santos Museum Foundation, Inc. showcases the city’s glorious past with memorabilia of the late General Paulino Santos and other important artifacts, relics, and treasures that have shaped the identity of General Santos City. It also features ethnic costumes of the local T'bolis and Muslim community. The museum charges a small fee for visitors. It is relatively uncrowded and easy to move around in. There are not many artifacts on display, so you can see the entire collection in an hour or so. It is still worth a visit, however, to learn about General Santos and all that he is famous for. Apart from artifacts related to the general, there is a coin collection that will be of interest to students of numismatics. There are also several sections dedicated to the ethnic and folk art of the region. As the only museum in Gensan, it is worth seeing for any student of history, for it clearly traces the history of the region and that of General Santos. It is proud of its rich and varied heritage and showcases the various aspects of the General. Go here to get a perspective on what General Santos means to the people of the Philippines.
