Eating Out in General Santos City
Edit ThisEating out in General Santos City is a delicious treat. Known for fresh seafood, featuring Sashimi Tuna, this city is sure to delight fish lovers from all over the world. In fact, a common nickname for General Santos City is "Tuna City." The famous Tuna festival is a major event every year, and there are plenty of activities to appeal to your taste buds, including culinary competitions, sampling booths, parades and floats. A main specialty in the city is grilled tuna jaw dipped in soy sauce, or a mixture of soy, lemon and vinegar, which you eat simply with your hands.
The fishing industry is huge in General Santos City, but the agriculture industry is big as well. In many Filipino dishes you'll find popular and local fruits, grains and vegetables, such as coconuts, corn, pineapples, asparagus, rice and other exotic flavors. Meals in general are very cheap; they are always below $10 USD per person, way cheaper than most countries. Service is usually relaxed and very friendly and food tends to be homemade. Besides Filipino cuisine, General Santos City also has many international fast food chains, which aren't recommended, as well as Chinese and Japanese restaurants, most of which are quite good.
General Santos City Restaurants
Serving up fresh, local meals is Jam's Restaurant. It is a very casual place with cheap, tasty food. The specialty of the restaurant is no surprise, tuna! Another great restaurant, especially for young people, is Tatay Pepe's Restobar. Here you can enjoy local, live music and homemade Filipino food, and just immerse yourself in the culture. Meals and drinks are cheap, as they are in the majority of restaurants.
Chinese and Japanese Restaurants in the City
Nana Beth Fastfood House is a great place to go for a variety of different foods. Filipino cuisine, Chinese food and Japanese specialties are all on the menu. The ingredients are always fresh and are of a high quality. For a stylish, modern dining experience head over to the Mandarin Tea Garden. Located in several locations throughout General Santos City, this delicious restaurant serves up incredible Chinese food. You can even access their Wi-Fi while eating there, which is very useful for people on business trips. The place itself is tranquil and beautiful, because it is, after all, a tea garden. The tea is highly recommended.
