There are several budget
airlines that operate flights to the Philippines every day. Budget Airlines, Cebu
Pacific, Air Asia and Tiger Airways are some of the airlines that operate in
the region. Check with the airline office to get the latest discount rates.
Passenger Ferries
You can also take the passenger ferries or medium size RORO (roll on/roll off) vessels and explore the vast, open sea surrounding Cebu. This may take longer but you will surely enjoy mingling with different people; plus it is much cheaper than flying.
Getting Around in Cebu
Once you have reached the Cebu’s domestic port, going around the city is no big deal. You can ride the Jeepney or tricycle (public transportation that can only be seen in the Philippines) for only Php 10. If you are to travel a longer route you can opt for the bus or taxi, which will cost you Php 100.
Budget Accommodations
There are lots of budget accommodations around Cebu. Normal rates per person can be as low as Php 300 to as much as Php 1000 per night. Sugbutel Bed and Bath is one of the lowest hostel accommodations in Cebu. The hostel charges Php300/person for a 20-hour stay. Every room has air-conditioning and Wi-Fi access.
Eating
Eating out is the biggest adventure when visiting different places and Cebu is no exception. There are several restaurants and eateries around Cebu and if you are on a budget you can stop by any of these restaurants and enjoy a good meal. Some of the local delicacies to try are the Adobo, Inihaw, Kare-kare and many for as low as Php50. Some of the restaurants worth stopping by are Neo-Neo, Goodah-Gud, Tsibog and Larsian Barbeque. Must- try foods are Cebu’s Lechon and Halo-Halo.
Budget Destinations
If you are on a budget, visiting the following places will cost you nothing. Take a trip to the different museums and historical places like the Basilica de Sto Nino, Magellan’s Cross, Taoist Temple and Lapu-Lapu’s Monument. There are also lots of beautiful spots in Cebu like the Santa Rosa Falls, Mt. Manghilaw and the Olango Wildlife sanctuary that do not charge for admission.
