Things to do in Camiguin island

Edit This

One of the best places to enjoy a holiday is in Camiguin Island. Things to do here are sightseeing, diving, swimming, shopping and visiting the volcano, to name a few. Here are a few recommendations for you to make the most of your visit to Camiguin Island.

Visit White Island

If you happen to be in search of serenity, look no further than White Island, lesser known as Medan Island. There is great truth in its name, for this small, crescent-shaped inhabited beach is known for its powdery white sand. Away from the city’s hustle and bustle, it’s a perfect locale for vacationers, backpackers and photographers alike with the awe-inspiring Mt. Hibok-Hibok and Mt. Vulcan as its backdrop. The beach is paradisiacal as well as safe for swimming and snorkeling. Since there is no cover as such against the sun’s heat, it is advisable to bring along protective gear like sunglasses and sun-screen lotion as well as some food and water due to the absence of vendors.

Katibawasan Falls

Located 5 kilometers southeast of the town of Mambajao and at the foot of the stunning Mt. Timpoong, the Katibawasan waterfalls provide a relief to the island’s heat and humidity. Cascading up to 250 feet high and ending in an ice cold emerald rock pool surrounded by flora of all kinds, the falls make for an ideal place to swim. Entrance to the park will cost you a minimal amount.

Visit a Volcano Site

Camiguin is also known as the “Island Born of Fire” because it houses 7 volcanoes, including Mt. Timpoong, which is the highest at 1600 meters. Safe tours are provided by local guides to Mt. Hibok-Hibok and for those with more of an adventurous streak, sports like rappelling and rafting are also available.

Float on a Sunken Cemetery

Snorkelers and scuba divers can take in the coral encrusted tombstones that lie 20 feet underwater in Catarman. A huge cross installed in 1982 marks the cemetery that sunk due to a volcanic eruption. Those who wish to take a closer look and enjoy a beautiful sunset can rent a banca (traditional Philippine boat) for a few dollars.

Tanguines Lagoon

Visit this man-made lagoon (near Benoni Port in the town of Mahinog) and stay at the Lagoon Travel Lodge. Dining options include the lodge’s floating restaurant and other local treats. This is a perfect spot to enjoy the day with your family.
